The other day we shared a post about a famous Gospel called the Pumpkin Gospel. What is the Pumpkin Gospel? It is one of the most meaningful fall lessons we usually learn when little.
When October arrives, it is everything about pumpkin, and we enjoy picking up the most beautiful and biggest pumpkin in the pumpkin patch. The pumpkin and the process we do to it are similar to our life in Christ. Here is the important lesson:
A. Just like we chose our pumpkin, God chose each of us! He loved us first.
Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love, He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will. Ephesians 1:4-5.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. John 15:16.
B. Just like us, the pumpkin looks good on the outside, but on the inside, she is full of yucky stuff that needs to come out.
Romans 3:23 – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Mark 7: 21-23- For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, those evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
C. Just as we take time to cleanse the insides of the pumpkin to make it look good, God cleanses us when we are willing to surrender to Him and ask for forgiveness.
1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Romans 6:6- We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
D. Just as we make a face on the pumpkin to make it something new, God removes every sin and makes us a new creation.
2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 4: 16-17- Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, inwardly, we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
E. The same way we put a light inside the pumpkin, God put His light inside us so we can shine.
Matthew 5:14-16 – “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Psalm 18: 28:You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
As you can see, there are lots of lessons with this Pumpkin Gospel. Surrender to God's Will, accept His call, and Let Him cleanse and be prepared because He will make you a new creature.
