Have you heard the phrase, “A little bit of kindness goes a long way”? Kindness is one of the character traits we nurture in our Warriors. But what is kindness? The dictionary defines it as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. The Bible describes kindness as an attribute of God, a quality we are called to reflect, even when it doesn’t come naturally. Ideally, kindness should guide our actions every day. As Warriors, we are called to model kindness and compassion, not just for ourselves, but for the people around us. By showing love and care, we can create a school environment where everyone feels valued and included. Here are some new ways VPS Warriors can spread kindness and compassion at school:
1. Be a “Problem Solver”- If a classmate is upset, struggling with a project, or facing a challenge, offer solutions. Sometimes, just showing that you care and want to help can change someone’s entire day.
2. Celebrate Others’ Successes- Instead of competing or comparing, celebrate the accomplishments of others. A kind Warrior might cheer loudly at a classmate’s achievement, leave a note congratulating them, or say, “I’m proud of you!”
3. Start a Compliment Chain- Encourage Warriors to give one genuine compliment a day to someone in their class. It could be about their work, a skill, or even something kind they did. Then, that person continues the chain. Watch how positivity spreads!
4. Be a “Secret Helper”- Leave encouraging sticky notes on lockers, clean up a shared space without being asked, or secretly help organize supplies. Random acts of kindness create smiles and show that Warriors care about their community.
5. Share Your Talents- If you’re good at music, art, sports, or any skill, use it to uplift others. Teach someone how to draw, practice a song together, or help a teammate improve. Sharing your gifts is a powerful way to show love and encouragement.
6. Invite others to your circle- Invite someone to join your game, group project, or lunchtime conversation. Sometimes, a small gesture of inclusion can help someone feel seen, welcome, and valued.
7. Be Mindful of Words- Words have power. Warriors can practice speaking kindly, avoiding gossip, and offering supportive words to others when they feel discouraged. Even saying, “I believe in you,” can make a huge difference.
8. Encourage Teamwork- When working in groups, make sure everyone has a voice. Celebrate others’ ideas and contributions, and help peers feel confident. Kindness grows when everyone feels included and respected.
9. Share Joy and Laughter- A kind Warrior knows the power of joy. Sharing a funny story, a joke, or an uplifting moment can lighten someone’s mood and create a positive environment for everyone.
We believe kindness isn’t a one-time act; it’s a way of life. Every thoughtful gesture, encouraging word, or helping hand adds up, creating a school culture where compassion thrives. When living the warrior way, our students not only grow into empathetic leaders but also inspire those around them to act with care, love, and understanding.
Kindness isn’t just an action; it’s a habit, a choice,
and a Warrior way of life!
