Our Provider

“Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow, reap or store away in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you, by worrying, add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6: 25-27.

These verses reassure us that we do not need to worry about our basic needs in life because God is our Provider. God takes care of our needs if we seek Him and surrender to Him. When we worry about money, we let it control us rather than giving control to God. We need to trust that God will always provide what we need. Jesus turns to this beautiful natural example to explain God’s work as our Provider. He is clear in reassuring us that He will provide everything we need, yet why do we stress so much and succumb to fear?

We say we believe in God, but what happens when we struggle? Do we really believe? What happens when you are struggling to stay afloat? It is easy to believe in God when everything is peaches and cream, but when life gets tough or when scarcity knocks on your door, it becomes hard to maintain faith. We start worrying and get anxious and frustrated. We say we trust God, but do we trust Him? Are we trusting God or our strength? If we live a life full of anxiety and fear, are we trusting God? If we trust Him, we must cast our cares on Him and let Him work His will. The problem is that we say we give our problems to Him when in reality, we took the baggage home with us because we want to maintain some control. We want to control everything, and it is hard for us to let it go and trust God and His will.

I know from experience that surrendering to God is not an easy task, but I also know that when we finally do it, the peace we receive is mind-blowing. When we let God take control, He gives us the peace that surpasses all understanding, and that peace is not like any other; it does not fade, and it gives us the courage to continue. Worrying implies a lack of trust. It means that we feel like there is no way out of that situation, and that alludes to brokenness in our relationship with God because when we trust God, our worries fade. When we let God take control, worry and fear lose their power over us because we trust everything will work out for the best if God is in control.

God is the one that provides all that we need. When we seek God’s Kingdom and righteousness, He takes care of all our needs. 33 But seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness first, and all these things will be added to you. Mathew 6:33. God knows what we need and will provide. We need to seek Him, but what should we do to stop worry and fear?

  • Focus on eternal matters - We should remember that we should store up treasures in Heaven and not on Earth, where they are temporary and get corrupted. We should seek a relationship with Jesus and start building steps toward Him.

  • Surrender to God's will- God's will is always best. His will is always perfect and goes beyond anything you can think of.

  • Trust God- We must cast our cares on Him and trust that He will provide everything we need.

  • Focus on who you are to God. When we know who we are in God's eyes and how valuable we are to Him, we know He will take care of us, no matter what.

  • Pursue His righteousness- So then, don’t worry saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the unconverted pursue these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But above all, seek His kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will also be given to you. Matthew 6:31-33.

  • Remember His Grace- Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34. We will encounter problems and trials, but we must not forget that Jesus conquered all on the cross. He made us victorious.

Worry and fear are powerful things that can destroy us. It is essential to keep them at bay and feed our minds with God's Word so that whenever worry and fear overwhelm us, we have the tools to overcome them. Live a life of thankfulness for every blessing. Today, I invite you to cast all your cares in God and trust He will provide you with all you need. HE IS OUR PROVIDER!
