What If Autumn Is God’s Invitation to Rest?
This week, we welcome a new season: Autumn, a season full of coziness, cooler weather, beautiful colors, and so many blessings. As nature begins its own beautiful transition, perhaps it is also inviting us to slow down, take a deep breath, and pause long enough to appreciate the beauty God has placed all around us.
A quote that I like a lot says, “To walk into nature is to witness a thousand miracles.- Mary Davis.” I feel more connected to God when I’m enjoying nature because being surrounded by nature is being closer to God’s creative side. The changes we see in nature remind us of God’s creative power and allow us to be witnesses of His greatness. Witnessing all the beautiful sights makes us feel closer to Him. Because of this beautiful truth, one of the seasons that fills my soul is Autumn. Autumn gifts us beautiful scenery that fills our hearts with warmth and hope. The beautiful sunsets filled with yellows, reds, and oranges are a breathtaking sight that reminds us how blessed we are to be able to enjoy such beauty. Every time I delight in God’s creation, I am reminded that I am beyond blessed because of all the beautiful surroundings He has given us to enjoy. Nature is one of His greatest gifts to us; its beauty and magnificence inspire our creativity, give us peace, and allow us to connect with His love.
But perhaps Autumn gives us another beautiful gift: an invitation to slow down and rest in God. In a world that constantly tells us to hurry, accomplish more, and keep moving, Autumn seems to whisper, “Slow down, look around, breathe, and rest.”
· Rest by slowing down. Take a walk and allow yourself to notice the colors, the breeze, the changing leaves, and the beauty around you.
· Rest by being present. Put down the distractions for a moment and simply enjoy what God has placed in front of you.
· Rest by creating quiet moments. Enjoy a warm drink, sit outside, watch the sunset, and permit yourself to simply be.
· Rest by admiring God’s creation. Let the beauty of nature remind you that God is still creating, still moving, and still at work, even when you are not.
· Rest through gratitude. Pause and thank God for the blessings you might otherwise be too busy to notice.
· Rest by letting go. Just as the trees release their leaves, we can surrender the things we have been holding too tightly and trust God with what comes next.
Autumn speaks about renewal and change. Seeing the leaves change color and fall from the trees speaks of constant transformation and reminds us that sometimes we need to let go of the old to welcome the new. It teaches us that there is beauty in change and that we should embrace it with grace. It also teaches us to appreciate every moment and enjoy nature’s peace and serenity. The falling leaves are also a beautiful reminder that letting go can be an act of faith. The trees don’t hold on to what has already served its purpose. They release it, trusting that another season will come. Sometimes, resting in God means doing the same, releasing our worries, our plans, our fears, and our need to control what happens next.
We need to realize the importance of nature and how it allows us to witness God in action. Sometimes, we don’t need to look far to find a reminder of His presence. We simply need to slow down enough to see it. Autumn is also a symbol of a good harvest, and it reminds us to be grateful for all the things we have. It is a time to see the fruit of what we have sown. It is a season to celebrate the reaping and give thanks for all the blessings we have received, and that is another way Autumn teaches us to rest: to stop and appreciate how far we have come. We spend so much time preparing for the next season that we sometimes forget to celebrate the harvest from the one we are in. We should treasure this season and make the most of it because we can see God through its beauty. Just look outside your window, take a walk, watch the sunset, notice the leaves, breathe in the crispness of the season, and let it remind you that you don’t always have to be doing something to experience God’s presence. Sometimes, you simply need to stop long enough to notice what He has already done.
Nature is one of His greatest gifts to u; its beauty and magnificence inspire our creativity, give us peace, and allow us to connect with His love. So this Autumn, let nature invite you to slow down, let go, give thanks, and rest in the One who created it all, because while the seasons change, God remains constant, and resting in Him begins with simply looking outside and remembering how great He is.
