FOSTERING READING HABITS IN OUR WARRIORS: READING SUGGESTIONS

The Summer break is the perfect time to nurture and foster some reading habits in your child. Here are some fantastic book recommendations for different age groups to keep your child's love for reading alive this Summer:

 

For Young Children (Ages 4-7)

  • The Tale of Three Trees: A Traditional Folktale by Angela Elwell Hunt- Overview: This book tells the story of three trees, each with its dream. As their stories unfold, they realize that God's plan for them is more wonderful than anything they could have imagined.         

  • God Gave Us You by Lisa Tawn Bergren- Overview: This heartwarming story follows a young polar bear cub who asks its mother where it came from. The mother bear explains that the cub is a precious gift from God, highlighting themes of love, family, and God's creation.       

  • In this beloved Berenstain Bears and the Golden Rule by Mike Berenstain Bears book, Sister Bear learns the importance of the Golden Rule: "Do to others what you would have them do to you." Through a simple and relatable story, children are taught about kindness, empathy, and living out Christian values in everyday situations.

For Early Readers (Ages 8-10)

  • The Prince Warriors series by Priscilla Shirer- Overview: This engaging series follows a group of kids who discover they are warriors in a spiritual battle. With the help of their armor and guidance from the Source, they learn valuable lessons about faith, courage, and the power of God's Word.                           

  • The Imagination Station series by Marianne Hering and Paul McCusker- Overview: This series, created by the producers of Adventures in Odyssey, takes kids on time-travel adventures where they experience historical events and learn biblical truths. Each book features a different historical period and biblical lesson. 

  • AIO Imagination Station series by Marianne Hering and Paul McCusker- In this series from Adventures in Odyssey, young readers follow cousins Patrick and Beth as they travel through time with the help of the Imagination Station. They encounter historical figures and biblical events, learning important moral and spiritual lessons.

For Young Children (Ages 11-13)     

  • River of Time Series by Lisa T. Bergren- In this time-travel adventure series, two modern teenage sisters are transported back to medieval Italy. They must navigate the challenges of a different time while dealing with faith, love, and survival matters.                

  • The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis- This classic series of seven books follows the adventures of siblings in the magical land of Narnia, where they encounter Aslan, the great lion, and experience profound moral and spiritual lessons.  

  • Left Behind: The Kids Series by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye- This series follows a group of teenagers who are left behind after the Rapture. They must navigate a world in turmoil, facing challenges and dangers while learning about faith and relying on God for guidance and strength.

For Young Children (Ages 14-16)

  • The Cooper Kids Adventure Series by Frank Peretti- This series follows siblings Jay and Lila Cooper as they embark on thrilling archaeological adventures with their father, Dr. Cooper. Each book presents a new mystery to solve, blending action and suspense with Christian principles.
