Warrior: Suit Up with the Armor of God!

We are Warriors, and Warriors wear armor because it protects our most vital areas in times of danger. We wear it knowing a battle approaches and wanting safety. In the same way, we put on God’s armor for our spiritual lives, the devil is always looking to attack. Our struggle isn’t with people, but with spiritual forces. That’s why Paul’s explanation of God’s armor in Ephesians 6 matters so much.

Here’s a breakdown of each piece and its significance:

1. Belt of Truth- (Ephesians 6:14)

  • The belt secures the soldier’s armor and allows for freedom of movement.

  • Spiritually, it symbolizes truth, understanding God’s Word, and living honestly with integrity.

  • Truth holds everything together in our lives and protects us from the enemy’s lies.

2. Breastplate of Righteousness- (Ephesians 6:14)

  • Protects the heart and vital organs of a soldier.

  • Spiritually, it symbolizes righteousness, living rightly before God through faith, obedience, and moral integrity.

  • It guards our hearts from the attacks of sin, guilt, and condemnation.

3. Shoes of the Gospel of Peace- (Ephesians 6:15)

  • Soldiers needed a secure footing for battle.

  • Spiritually, it represents readiness to share the good news of Jesus Christ and to walk in peace.

  • Our faith and confidence in God’s peace give us stability when facing spiritual challenges.

4. Shield of Faith- (Ephesians 6:16)

  • Shields protected soldiers from arrows and attacks.

  • Faith defends against doubt, fear, and spiritual attacks.

  • By trusting in God’s promises, we can “extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”

5. Helmet of Salvation-(Ephesians 6:17)

  • Protects the head, the center of thought and judgment.

  • Salvation reminds us of our security in Christ and guards our minds from despair, confusion, and deception.

6. Sword of the Spirit-(Ephesians 6:17)

  • The only offensive weapon in the armor.

  • Represents the Word of God, the Bible, which can be used to resist temptation, confront lies, and declare God’s truth.

7. Prayer- (Ephesians 6:18)

  • Though not a piece of armor, prayer is the constant means of communication and connection with God.

  • Through prayer, we remain alert, seek guidance, and receive strength for spiritual battles.

It’s important to put on this armor every day. It protects our hearts, minds, and souls from temptation, negativity, and anything the enemy tries to use against us. God’s armor gives us strength and courage to face any challenge. It also brings us peace and reminds us that we rely on God’s power, not our own, which helps us trust Him more. Today, I invite you to read Ephesians 6 and make it part of your daily routine. You’ll see the difference it will make.
