Next week, our VPS Warriors will be enjoying their Spring Break. A full week to rest, recharge, and spend meaningful time with family is something everyone looks forward to. Free time with the people we love is a gift, yet many parents start wondering what to do with their children for several days at home. Planning can turn that question into an exciting opportunity. Spring Break is the perfect moment to explore, create, laugh together, and make memories that your children will carry with them for years. Here are some fun ideas your family can enjoy during the break:
Go to the beach- Florida is blessed with beautiful beaches, and Spring Break is the perfect time to enjoy them. Pack some snacks, bring a ball or frisbee, and let the children build sandcastles, splash in the water, and enjoy a day in the sun.
Visit nearby state or national parks- Many wonderful parks are located around Florida and near St. Augustine. Spend time exploring trails, observing wildlife, and learning about nature together. Bring a small notebook and let the children write or draw what they discover.
Take a mini road trip- Plan a simple road adventure and explore somewhere new. Choose a nearby town, historical site, or scenic spot. Let the children help plan stops along the way and choose a fun place to eat.
Create backyard fun- Backyards can turn into the best playgrounds. Set up water balloons, sprinklers, or a small obstacle course. Children love simple activities that allow them to run, laugh, and play freely.
Plan a family cookout or baking day- Look up a recipe everyone can make together. Bake cookies, decorate cupcakes, or prepare a simple cookout meal. Children love measuring, mixing, and tasting their creations.
Host a movie day or movie night- Gather popcorn, snacks, blankets, and a few favorite movies. Let each family member choose one film. Invite a few friends over and turn the living room into a cozy movie theater.
Enjoy nature together- Plan a picnic at a park or spend time taking photos of flowers, birds, and trees. A nature walk can become a small adventure when children are encouraged to observe the beauty around them.
Volunteer as a family- Look for ways to serve the community. Helping at a local organization, donating items, or assisting a neighbor can teach children that kindness and service bring joy.
Try a local food adventure- Pick a few interesting food spots and turn the day into a tasting adventure. Try a new ice cream shop, bakery, or café and rate your favorite treats as a family.
Visit theme parks or family attractions- Many fun parks and attractions are within driving distance. Roller coasters, animal encounters, and interactive exhibits create exciting memories that children never forget.
Plan a daily craft hour- Set aside time each day for creativity. Painting, building with recycled materials, or creating simple decorations can keep children engaged and proud of their work.
Create a family reading time- Visit your local library and let each child choose a book they are excited about. Spend quiet time reading together or take turns sharing favorite parts of the story.
Spring Break offers many opportunities to laugh, explore, and grow closer as a family. A simple plan helps the week run smoothly, and keeping a backup idea ready makes it easy to adapt when plans change. Involving children in the planning process makes the experience even more exciting for them. Memories created together are the most valuable part of the week. Time spent laughing, exploring, and sharing simple moments will stay in their hearts long after Spring Break is over.
