A Life Anchored in Truth

Lies only generate more lies, because to sustain them, we are often led to continue sinning, covering, and hiding what is not right. In the end, falsehood becomes a cycle that traps the heart. This is why walking in truth is so essential. 7: Jesus said to him: “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) We have all heard this verse before, but today the Lord placed something deeply in my heart about truth that I want to share. If we walk in truth, we walk with Christ, because He Himself is the Truth. The truth is the only way to true freedom, and this is why Jesus said that the truth will set us free. On the other hand, when we choose lies, deception, or hidden sin, we distance ourselves from Him. We cannot claim to walk with Christ while living in falsehood, because light and darkness cannot coexist.

So, what is truth? Biblically, truth comes from the Hebrew ’emet, meaning something firm, solid, reliable, and faithful. In Greek, aletheia refers to what is uncovered, real, and free from concealment, what is seen as it truly is. In the New Testament, it carries the idea of certainty, trustworthiness, and reality itself. Truth is not only something spoken; it is something lived. It reflects what is genuine, faithful, and aligned with God’s character. The Bible is clear: God is a God of truth. “If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” (1 John 1:6). Scripture also reminds us that truth is not only known, but experienced: “Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him: If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31–32). Freedom is found in truth because truth leads us to Christ, and Christ is freedom itself.

Jesus is the perfect example of truth. There was no deception in Him, no hidden motive, no falsehood. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14). Walking in truth is not optional for the believer; it reflects Christ in us. To live in lies is to reject the very nature of the One we claim to follow. If we desire to walk with Christ, we must commit to walking in truth daily. This requires discipline of the heart, the mouth, and our choices. “Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.” (Psalm 34:13). Even what people call “small lies” are dangerous because every lie begins a pattern that grows and requires more deception to sustain it. “Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you.” (Proverbs 4:24).

Living in truth means choosing honesty even when it is uncomfortable. It means refusing to hide sin, refusing to distort reality, and choosing transparency before God and others. It also means allowing God’s Word to correct us and reshape us so that our lives align with His truth. Today, I invite you to reflect sincerely on your life. If you desire to walk with Christ, then choose to walk in truth. There is no greater freedom than living in alignment with Him. Walking with Christ is walking in light, protection, love, and mercy. “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31–32).

Lord Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for taking my sins upon yourself and dying for me on the cross. I recognize that I need you and that without you, I am nothing. I acknowledge that you gave your life for me because you love me. Please guide me and help me in every situation I face. Take control of my life. Teach me to live according to your Word. Remove lies and falsehood from my heart and give me a new heart filled with your truth and your love. Thank you for beginning a new work in me. In your holy name, above every name, Jesus, amen.
